Description
Join us for the premiere screening of “A Culinary Uprising: The Story of Bloodroot” on November 10, 2024! Showings are at 5 & 7 pm.
This 80-minute documentary film highlights the history of Bloodroot, a pioneering feminist vegan restaurant and bookstore in Bridgeport, CT, and the visionary women who brought it to life.
Founded in 1977, Bloodroot is more than just a restaurant — it is a cultural and political hub for feminist activism, LGBTQ+ visibility and community-building.
Directed by Annie Laurie Medonis, this project has been four years in the making, documenting Bloodroot's founders, Selma Miriam (89) and Noel Furie (79). These two trailblazing vegan, lesbian feminists have woven their identities into the fabric of Bloodroot, creating a safe space for women and others resisting patriarchal norms.
The funds raised from these ticket sales will go toward the cost of the premiere and score of the film.
